A: Yes, we encourage you to take all of your regular medications and eat a good breakfast unless otherwise directed. If you take Warfarin (Coumadin), we require a recent INR result within one week of your surgery. Other blood thinners do not require additional precautions.

A: Most Mohs surgery appointments last about three hours, but sometimes they can take longer. The duration depends on how many layers of skin need to be removed to ensure all cancerous cells are eliminated. While waiting, you will have a bandage in place until we confirm the cancer is completely removed.

A: No, Mohs surgery is performed under local anesthesia only. This method is much safer than general anesthesia and ensures a faster recovery.

A: You may feel a brief stinging sensation when the numbing medication is injected, but you should not experience sharp pain during surgery. After the procedure, mild soreness is expected, but most patients manage discomfort with ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the surgical site, and avoid makeup if your procedure is done on your face. Reducing or stopping smoking before surgery can also improve healing.
