What Is Mohs Surgery?
Developed in the 1930s and refined over decades, Mohs micrographic surgery is the gold standard for skin cancer treatment. This precise procedure removes cancer in layers, one tissue section at a time, allowing the surgeon to examine 100% of the margins under a microscope. This method ensures complete removal of the cancer while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
Benefits of Mohs Surgery
-
Complete Cancer Removal
Mohs surgery ensures all cancerous tissue is removed during the procedure, significantly reducing the chance of recurrence.
-
Healthy Skin Preservation
By targeting only cancerous cells, the procedure minimizes the removal of healthy tissue.
-
Cosmetic and Functional Results
Mohs surgery is designed to achieve the best cosmetic and functional outcomes.
-
Same-Day Repair
In most cases, the surgical site is repaired on the same day the cancer is removed.
-
Effective for Recurrent Skin Cancers
Mohs surgery is particularly successful for skin cancers that have returned after other treatments.
